The Black Sea Diorama

The first hall is dedicated to the Black Sea, presenting information material, several wet exhibits that are representative for the invertebrates world in the Black Sea (displayed in cylinders) and a large size diorama. The diorama presents the ecological transition from the ecosystems that characterize the Romanian Southern coast (displaying a rocky ground) to those that characterize the Northern area of the coast, near the Danube Delta (with slimy or sandy ground).

In the area of stony facies many fish may be encountered, such as chubs, labridae ( little star), sea scorpion fish, blue fish and algae associated species that develop on rocks, such as stickleback, thickly snouted pipefish (Syngnathus Variegatus) or the seahorse. Inside that with sandy facies sturgeons may be seen (beluga, sturgeon, stor sturgeon) and flat fish (such as plaice, flounder, sole) as well as other fish that are buried in sand (stargazer, dragon fish).

Nectonic species (those that swim in water mass) are met in a non-differentiated way subject to the facies of the mari0ne ground. We may remark from among these anchovy, sprot, Danube mackerel, but also large size species, that are encountered, nowadays, very rarely or even not at all in the Black Sea, such as pelamid, tuna, swordfish. Two species of marine mammals, the common dolphin and the porpoise are also present.
