Coleoptera collections

The scientific Coleoptera collection includes more than 220,600 specimens. Among those, the specimens donated in 1882 and 1895 by Hilarie Mitrea, part of the Deszö Kenderessy collection acquired in 1883 from „Otto Staudinger & Bang Haas” in Dresden.

Hymenoptera collection

The Hymenoptera collection was initiated with the acquisition of a lot of exotic and Palearctic insects from „O. Staudinger & Bang – Haas of Dresden, at the beginning of the 20th century, in order to organize the first insect collection of the public exhibition of the Museum.

Lepidopterans collection

Our Museum has the largest and most valuable lepidopteran collection (butterflies and moths) of Romania, over 185,000 specimens, app. 20,000 species.

Orthoptera collection

The MNINGA Othoptera collection comprises the Exotic Othoptera ceollction and the Orthoptera collection – Romanian Fauna. The last one includes over 6,500 specimens from all over the country.

The adult Romanian Trichoptera collection is a small collection of about 300 specimens. It was scientificly organized in 32 genera and 50 species by Prof. A. Murgoci.
